Kolkata: Arpita Mukherjee’s life is in grave danger. The ED, which is probing the West Bengal School Service Commission recruitment scam, has made this shocking claim. Arpita’s lawyer has demanded special facilities for her in jail. Arpita Mukherjee, a close aide of Partha Chatterjee, who was sacked from the Mamata Banerjee cabinet after being embroiled in the scam, is in ED custody. The investigating agency claimed in the special court on Friday that Arpita’s life is in danger. The court has sent both the accused Parth and Arpita to judicial custody for 14 days. The lawyer of Bengali actor Arpita has made another request to the court. The lawyer said that under the security arrangements being made as per the order of the court, the food and water that will be served in the jail should be investigated.
‘Facility in the form of Division-1 prisoner in jail’
The court has asked Alipore’s women’s correctional home to submit a report regarding Arpita’s security arrangements by August 18. Arpita and former minister Partha Chatterjee were arrested by the ED on July 23 within a span of a few hours. Both were in ED custody till Friday. Arpita’s lawyer said in the appeal that her client should be kept as a Division-1 prisoner in the jail. Under this, the prisoner is entitled to a separate room, bed, chair, table and other facilities. However, the bail application was not filed on behalf of Arpita. ED officials say that Partha Chatterjee did not cooperate in the interrogation during his 12-day custody, while Arpita was answering questions.
