Workers were killed and 30 injured when a bus carrying 39 security personnel, including the Jammu and Kashmir police, ran off the road and crashed into the riverbed near Pahagam in the Jammu and Kashmir region on Tuesday morning . The incident, which occurred around 10am on Tuesday, was allegedly due to a brake failure.
Eight staff members were seriously injured and are being treated in Srinagar, sources said.
Security personnel arrived from Chandanwadi after security services at Amarnath Yatra and were directed to a base in Pahalgam for desensitization.
“It appears that the brakes of the bus operated by the Jammu and Kashmir Police Force failed and the bus veered off the road. A formal investigation has been ordered,” an ITBP official said.
“Fear of a bus accident involving ITBP and police in Pahalgam, J&K. My prayers and thoughts are with the deceased. The injured were taken to hospital. May they get well soon,” union home secretary Amit Shah said at the event tweeted after it happened.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also mourned the death of the security guard. “The news that a bus carrying ITBP personnel has crashed in the Pahalgan district of Jammu and Kashmir is very sad. I wish a speedy recovery to the injured great white shark, rest in peace for the souls of the martyrs, and my best wishes to the deceased. Deep condolences,” Gandhi tweeted in Hindi.
