Poco tipped to launch Poco M5 4G in India at around Rs 15,000 in September

Poco will reportedly launch a new smartphone called Poco M5 4G in India as early as next month. According to 91Mobiles, citing industry sources, the new Poco M-series smartphones are equipped with the MediaTek G99 chipset, which is not yet available in mainstream budget smartphones. The report further highlights that the Poco M5 4G will be priced under Rs 15,000 in India. However, it might be available for the base model, while the 128GB version could cost upwards of Rs 15,000.

In terms of specifications, the Poco M5 4G is expected to come with a 6.58-inch FHD+ display, which is quite large and common if we look at the competition in this segment. Instead of an AMOLED panel, it can encapsulate an LCD panel with a high refresh rate. The report highlights that the smartphone can maintain its sleek, leather-like back design to appeal to both younger and older customers.

Other expected features include Android 12 OS, a side-mounted secure fingerprint sensor, dual-band WiFi connectivity, Bluetooth 5.0, and a minimum 6GB RAM option. As mentioned, the Poco M5 4G is said to be powered by the MediaTek G99 SoC.

Chipset maker MediaTek claims the G99 is designed to boost gaming performance in affordable smartphones. It is based on a 6nm process and supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, and the octa-core processor also gets UFS 2.2 technology support and LPDDR4X RAM. Therefore, we can expect the rumored Poco smartphone to borrow some of these specs. Readers must note that Poco has not confirmed progress, and caution is advised in obtaining information.

Meanwhile, Poco already offers many affordable options in the country. It already offers two devices under the Poco M series. The Poco M4 5G is priced at Rs 10,999, while the Pro version is priced at Rs 11,999.
