Sony’s new PS5 model will come with a Detachable Disc Drive- Know more

Sony, a Japanese tech player has been reportedly working on creating a PlayStation 5 (PS5) model with Detachable Disc Drive. As per the reports of GizmoChina, similar to Microsoft Xbox Series X and Series S, the Sony PlayStation 5 does not offer its latest generation of gaming consoles with different specs.

Although, it does offer one that lacks a physical disc drive. And now, a new report suggests that a third variant is on the way, the report said.

The Japanese tech giant has already been making minor changes to its latest generation of PS5 consoles. However, it seems like a new change might bring a drastic change in the new consoles’ design.

The news arrives from Insider Gamingas Tom Henderson who revealed that Sony could be looking to refresh the physical design of the PlayStation 5. Apparently, the upcoming versions of PS5 might feature a detachable disc drive.

According to reports, the brand plans to release the PS5 with a removable disk drive that connects to the console via a USB Type-C port on the back.

The company typically releases a new variant of its console every 3 to 4 years. So it wouldn’t be surprising if new PS5 models launch sometime within the next two years, the report said.

But unlike the Slim or Pro variants, this time around, the brand appears to be planning a removable drive. It could also reduce the cost of manufacturing the PlayStation 5, making it more affordable for buyers, she added.
