WhatsApp is now testing a feature that lets people hide their numbers from suspicious people. This feature has got the support of Wabetainfo. A report by WABetaInfo states that WhatsApp may give people the option to hide their phone numbers from specific WhatsApp groups. Regarding this feature, it has been claimed in the report that it is disabled by default. When you join a group, your phone number will be hidden from all members. However, later you can share users according to your preference in a specific sub-group.
Wabetainfo has also shared a screenshot which will give an idea of what this feature will look like once it is available to beta testers. There will be an option called Phone Number Sharing. With the help of this option, users will be able to decide whether they want to share their number with the group members or not.
WhatsApp is going to launch beta version 2.22.17.23 soon and only beta testers can access this feature. At present, WhatsApp is testing this feature only on Android. iOS beta testers may get this feature in the future. Talking in this matter, WhatsApp CEO Will Kathkart said that when a person joins a community, his phone number will be hidden from everyone except admins.
